ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 4.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The students in this class will examine current political, social, economic and international developments of the twelve countries in the region between the Baltic, Adriatic, and Black Seas.

Full description:

Students will be expected to research and present in class analyses of mutually agreed upon topics primarily using online sources and printed secondary literature. Attendance in class is mandatory as is participation in class discussion. Only two absences will be allowed. Powerpoint presentations and notes are to be delivered to the instructor via email a few days before the scheduled remarks.

Students will:

* develop and polish their English language skills;

* exercise their competence in researching topics using their various languages;

* learn about pertinent themes that they themselves will not have to present;

* develop confidence to engage publicly in scholarly discourse;

* master the technical prowess to connect online with the rest of the class.

Inculcating at least some of the above may help students to move on academically and professionally.

Regular. attendance, participation in class discussion, preparing notes to be used in slide presentations that must be sent to the instructor ahead of time.
