ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 3.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;

Short description:

the main idea of the lectures is to present and explain the students' complex contacts and relations between Christian denominations in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. Another topic is the policy in these countries in relation to the Catholic church

Full description:

Christianization of Eastern Europe. Shaping many denominations in the region: Orthodoxy, Catholicism, and Protestantism. Religious tolerance in WKL and RP. Uniate Church. Religious life in Russia until the end of the 18th century. Staroobrzędowcy. Christian denominations in the Russian Empire 19 - the beginning of the 20th century. The Orthodox Church as an institution of Russification in Ukraine and Belarus. Persecution of the Catholic Church. Religious policy in the USSR. Religious situation in the modern Russian Federation. Christian denominations in modern Ukraine. Fight for autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Zmiany w życiu religijnym Ukrainy w 2022 roku. Religious life in modern Belarus. Knowledge

    - The student knows the scientific categories ideology, mentality, culture, and the relationships of these categories with the phenomenon of everyday life, national identity and history of Central and Eastern Europe [K_W03, K_W08, K_W11, K_W12]

   - The student knows the basic terminology in the field of historiography, sociology, ethnology and social anthropology and has ordered, in-depth general knowledge including theories and methodology of the humanities [K_W01, K_ 03, K_W04]

Skills

   - The student has his own view on the development and functioning in Eastern Europe of a "new type" of man - Homo soveticus, knows his genesis, is able to define it using the terminology in the field of social anthropology, sociology of the nation, historiography and others. related fields [K_U01, K_U03, K_U06, K_U07, K_U08]

   - Student is able to justify his own opinion (positive or critical) regarding the present role and meaning of Homo soveticus, his mentality and historical and cultural myths [K_U01, K_U03, K_U06, K_U08]

  - Student understands the changing and evolutionary nature of social perception of cultural symbols and historical myths [K_K01, K_K03, K_K06]

- The student is prepared for substantive discussion in the context of professional or social activity in the international dimension [K_K06]

  - Thanks to the acquired subject knowledge, students have arguments in favor of accepting social and cultural diversity [K_K03]

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

The course includes weekly 2-hour classes. lecture As part of the classes:

  -Lectures documenting material (photographs, presentations and videos) and illustrating the issues discussed.

- Some lectures are conducted on the basis of discussions on given literature.

- continuous assessment during classes, including verification of knowledge of items on the reading list

  - essay / essay / or presentation at the end of the course
