  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;

Prerequisites (description):

This course covers competition law of the European Union. Rules applicable to undertakings as well as rules applicable to states are analyzed. Special attention is paid to the practical application of the rules and their influence on economic policy of companies and states.


Short description:

This course presents an introduction the to EU competition law and policy. It explains foundations of the EU competitions rules as well as its historical background. Students are involved in a discussion throughout the whole course.

Learning outcomes:

After having finished this course student:

1. explains rules of European competition law

2. describes functions and main principles of European competition law

3. distinguishes between rules applicable to states and rules applicable to undertakings

4. makes critical assessment of the EU competition policy

5. evaluates economic and legal consequences of EU competition policy for undertakings

6. gives interpration of the EU competition rules in the light of European court's case-law

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

The basis for assessment is prepared essay on the topic given by the teacher and the assessment of the activity in the classroom.
