Prerequisites (description): | The proseminar is conducted in the room. In agreed cases, the proseminar will be conducted remotely on the platform preferred by the University of Warsaw, e.g. Google Meet. |

Short description: |
The main aim of the proseminar is that students search for their own issue of thesis and the most appropriate diploma seminar for its implementation during the next semesters of study. A proseminar on a wide range of issues related to environmental protection and sustainable development, conducted for the entire first year of II-degree studies at MSOŚ. The proseminar acquaints students with the issues of conducting research work and the implementation of a diploma thesis. During the classes, papers are presented directly related to the potential issues of diploma theses and selected aspects of environmental protection and sustainable development. At the student's request, individual work with the proseminar leader may be conducted in the form of mentoring or coaching. |

The main aim of the seminar is that students search for their own issue of thesis and the most appropriate diploma seminar for its implementation during the next semesters of study. A proseminar on a wide range of issues related to environmental protection and sustainable development, conducted for the entire first year of II-degree studies at MSOŚ. The proseminar acquaints students with the issues of conducting research work and the implementation of a diploma thesis. During the course,students present, inter alia, selected aspects of environmental protection and sustainable development. At the student's request, individual work with the proseminar leader may be conducted in the form of mentoring or coaching. |

Literature strictly dependent on the research issues undertaken by the student and the stage of the diploma thesis, e.g.- literature on the methodology of research work and preparation of diploma theses, - individual selection of literature and archival works related to the research area and the research issue of students, - literature concerning the area and subject of the selected aspect of environmental protection and sustainable development, e.g. physio-geographic and ecophysiographic. |
Learning outcomes: |
After completing the entire series of seminars, the student: - has the ability to prepare an initial work plan, - has the ability to plan subsequent stages related to the implementation of the diploma thesis, - is able to make a selection and analyse archival materials. |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
Type of examination: pass/fail. Corrective examination based on additional work done. Criteria taken into account for passing the proseminar: - the substantive level of the presentation, - the visual form of the presented presentation and its attractiveness, - the way of presenting issues, - timely execution of works, - active participation in discussions and workshops, - attendance. The maximum number of absences allowed to be excused by the student: 2. More absences can be justified in accordance with the regulations in force at the University of Warsaw, e.g. on the basis of a medical certificate. |
Practical placement: |
Not obligatory in an enterprise, public institution or non-governmental organization selected by the student, after consultation with the proseminar leader and the thesis supervisor. |
