Short description: |
The goal of the course to study of a specific group of (Latin)American films in relation to their specific cultural and historical contexts. The task of the subject is to familiarize students with the broad context of American culture and civilization. Another goal of the course is that the student can locate the problem in a broader cultural context and be aware of the importance of (Latin)American heritage and its impact on modern societies. In addition to showing the main issues in this area, the problem shot (including race, class, ethnicity, gender) including (Latin)American texts will also be presented. |

The goal of the course to study of a specific group of (Latin)American films in relation to their specific cultural and historical contexts. The task of the subject is to familiarize students with the broad context of American culture and civilization. Another goal of the course is that the student can locate the problem in a broader cultural context and be aware of the importance of (Latin)American heritage and its impact on modern societies. In addition to showing the main issues in this area, the problem shot (including race, class, ethnicity, gender) including (Latin)American texts will also be presented. In addition, the students will learn film theory and learn an understanding of vocabulary, techniques, and methods of the analysis of movies. |

KNOWLEDGE student can explain the complexity of (Latin)American culture and civilization in context of films student is able to analyze the theoretical heritage of (Latin)American societies student can apply appropriate theories and relevant terminology in the field of cultural studies SKILLS student is able to locate a given problem in a broader historical, cultural and social context selecting and interpreting information from different sources analysing films in an aesthetic and social context SOCIAL COMPETENCE student will gain sensitivity to socio-cultural problems in American countries participating actively in cultural and social life understanding the principles of tolerance and cultural differences |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
Continuous assessment (active participation in class: 20%, and a short presentation: 30% of the final grade), 5 page essay : (50% of the final grade). |
