During the seminar students acquire basic skills in the field of research and prepare a licencjat thesis on the subject: transformations and changes in the economy

Class topics:

1/ Introduction to the methodology of scientific work

- objectives of the licencjat thesis

- selection of the subject of research

- facts and theories

- theoretical and empirical (practical) part of the licencjat work

- thesis and research methods

- the importance of critical thinking

- literature on the subject and empirical data

- rules for assessing licencjat thesis

- the principle of independence in scientific work and the problem of plagiarism

2/ Introduction to the issues covered by the seminar: Transformations and challenges

In recent years, the economies of Poland, Europe and the world have experienced numerous changes and transformations. These include:

- systemic transformation

- energy transformation,

- digital transformation,

- green transformation,

which are a manifestation of profound changes in the modern world, economy and society.

3/ determining the topic of licencjat theses

- literature studies on the subject

- defining the topic of the work - works written as part of the seminar refer to selected aspects of the ongoing changes and challenges, transformation of the economy and enterprises in Poland and other countries. Example thematic areas of licencjat theses:

- the importance of digital transformation for the functioning of enterprises

- changes in management models and methods

- just and green transformation

- climate crisis and energy transformation

- rule of law and democracy and the functioning of firms and economy

- new technologies and digitization of the economy

- Polish economy in the European Union

4/ preparation of a licencjat thesis project according to the given structure

- subject of work

- work goals

- research questions

- theses (hypotheses)

- work structure

5/ writing a licencjat thesis

- the student presents the work to the supervisor

In accordance with the guidelines of the Faculty of Management regarding licencjat theses, the bibliography of a licencjat thesis should contain at least 15 scientific titles, including 2 in foreign languages.

The selection of literature is a derivative of the topic of the licencjat work and largely depends on the student's creativity.

The following literature items may be helpful in preliminary studies of problems undertaken during the seminar, and may also guide further literature studies:

Student after completing the seminar:

In terms of knowledge:

- knows and understands terminology and basic theoretical problems in the field of management sciences and related sciences, i.e. economics and finance (K_W01)

- knows and understands in-depth the principles, procedures, practices and objectives of various organizations, their key functions and their relations with the environment, and also understands the issues of changes and transformations taking place in organizations and their relations with the environment (K_W02)

- knows and understands at an advanced level economic theories and models regarding the functioning of organizations and the entire economy (K_W03)

- knows and understands selected development challenges, including: changes in management models and methods, transformations of economic systems, energy transformation, green transformation and others. (K_W05)

In terms of skills:

- is able to use knowledge of management sciences, economics and finance to recognize, diagnose and solve problems related to key functions of the organization, including, above all, various types of changes and transformations (K_U01)

- is able to correctly interpret social, political, economic and environmental processes, phenomena and challenges and their impact on decisions in organizations, functioning and transformations of the organization and the entire economy, using the appropriate selection of sources (K_U02)

- can independently and collectively prepare analyses, diagnoses and reports on the functioning and changes in the organization, sector and the entire economy and present them communicatively, also in English (K_U03)

- is able to plan and organize own and team work (K_U05)

- has the ability to self-educate and improve acquired qualifications (K_U06)

In terms of attitudes:

- is ready for a critical and rational approach to situations and phenomena related to the functioning and changes of the organization, sector and the entire economy (K_K01)

- is ready to think and act in an entrepreneurial way (K_K02)

- is ready to comply with professional ethical standards (K_K03)

The assessment of a student's work during the seminar is two-stage: the licencjat thesis project and the finished licencjat thesis are assessed

Licencjat thesis project - the content of the project is assessed, in particular the presentation of the research topic and its objectives, determination of research methods, structure of the work and selection of literature

Licencjat thesis - both the substantive and formal aspects of the work, the correctness of the formulation of the objectives (theses) of the work, a review of the subject literature and empirical (practical) arguments, as well as the correctness of the selection of literature are assessed
