Short description:

Classes take the form of lectures. They are intended to deepen knowledge about the psychological aspects of pain. Concepts of pain and a review of research on psychological factors influencing the experience of pain will be presented. The psychological aspects of acute (acute postoperative pain) and chronic pain (chronic migraine pain) will be described. The subject of the analyzes will also be the specificity of experiencing pain by children and adolescents, including the influence of parents on the level of child pain experience. The issues of psychological pain therapy will also be discussed.

Learning outcomes:

Student:

- characterizes the phenomenon of pain

- understands the psychological aspect of pain experience

- has knowledge of pain experience measurement techniques

- knows the specificity of experiencing pain by children

- is aware of the importance of psychological factors in acute and chronic pain

Student:

- is able to analyze the phenomenon of pain in the psychological context

- is able to identify tools for measuring the experience of pain

Student:

- sees the relationship between psychological factors and acute and chronic pain

- sees the relationship between parents' behavior and children's experience of pain
