ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 3.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

Students learn about the celebrities in media. Focus is set mainly on legal and cultural aspects of this phenomenon.

Full description:

The lectures are devoted to the following topics:

• The definition of a celebrity and gossip

• Defining the concept of a media system, the press gossip, tabloid newspaper, tabloid, magazine.

• Printed Press - newspapers - devoted to celebrities: definition, specificity, leaders on the Polish and foreign

• Printed Press - Weeklies - dedicated to celebrities: definition, specificity, leaders on the Polish and foreign

• Printed Press - fortnightly - dedicated to celebrities: definition, specificity, leaders on the Polish and foreign

• Internet services - dedicated to celebrities: definition, specificity, leaders on the Polish and foreign

• Television - dedicated to celebrities: definition, specificity, leaders on the Polish and foreign

• Television programs focused on the lives of celebrities

• Photography and its role in shaping the image of celebrities in the media

• Legal aspects related to the formation of the image of celebrities in the media

• Marketing usage to shape the image of celebrities in the media

• the cultural aspect of this phenomenon (hero, hero, star)

• The importance of the role of computer graphics for the phenomenon

The lectures are also involved guests who talk about their work related to the topic: paparazzi, a specialist in shaping the media image, journalists from media institutions involved in describing the lives of celebrities.

knowledge:

• Student knows what medium qualities dealing with this topic

• Knows the most important media institutions whose main area of interest are celebrities (both domestic and foreign)

• Understands the principles by which these institutions operate

• Knows for whom this type of media are directed

• Knows the specific means of expression through which the celebrities contents are transmitted

• knows who is celebrity

• knows the origins of the celebrity culture phenomenon

skills:

• student distinguishes between primary institutions involved in the celebrity media in Poland and worldwide

• understand the motivations and can identify methods used by celebrities in order to shape their image in media

• Is able to identify the celebrity features and distinguish celebrity from the star

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Examination requirements:

Essay (DOC or PPT) on the use of the media by celebrities in order to shape its own image. OBJECTIVE: To familiarize with the knowledge that students gained in the classroom. Mainly will be assessed a multifaceted representation of the phenomenon.
