(tylko po angielsku) The seminar aims to explore history of women’s emancipation in 20th century Poland, with special attention to the questions of: relations between political regime, social order, and situation of women, strategies of emancipation, distinctions and similarities of feminist and women's movements in societies of East-Central Europe, the role of ideological conflicts between nationalism, state, and feminism. |

(tylko po angielsku) During the first meeting we will discuss the proposal key-topics (see: below)in terms of students' pesonal interests and their knowledge on history of Poland, Central Europe and emancipation processes in order to establish issues to be introduced and discussed. KEY TOPICS: Citizenship: Political participation of women in political system before and after the WWII; women’s movement - goals, agenda, strategies Work: Aftermaths of WWII and social revolution; gender structure of labor market and work activity, phases and faces of discrimination (1950s) Family and home: Post-Stalinist backlash or „normalization”, gender order in the 1960s and 1970s Sexuality, violence and war: Strategies of surviving, sexuality and violence, exclusion, women in combat Resistance: Women’s roles in anti-communist opposition (1980s) Reproductive rights: Biopolitics, , abortion, contraceptives, sexuology Feminism: Women’s situation after 1989 (unemployment, migration), Public debates on women; feminist organizations and institutions, transition from gender to queer |

Efekty uczenia się: |
(tylko po angielsku) After the course students will have knowledge on women's and gender history of Poland in the 20th century. They define gender and other analytical categories (such as heteronormative order, sexuality etc) and use them in historical research. Students can interpret the key socio-cultural phenomena of Polish history in the 20th century from gender perspective. They compare historical phenomena of different societies in order to discuss on global and local nature of history in terms of gender. |

(tylko po angielsku) Methods of work: discussion based on readings; analyse of sources (films/ pictures); short written assesments Condition of positive note: attendance (limit of 1 absence without consequence) preparation for classes (activity in a discussion based on readings) writing short reports from the readings in order to problematize the discussion for the highest grade − a 4-page essay |
