Brief description

This course introduces biblical Hebrew - the language of ancient Israel/Judah, in which the Tanakh/Old Testament was written. The course is accessible to absolute beginners, and assumes no prior knowledge of the language. The main aim of the course is to teach the students the basics of Biblical Hebrew and prepare them for reading Biblical texts with comprehension and using the dictionary if necessary.

Students begin by learning the alphabet and writing system, followed by systematically studying grammar and incrementally acquiring vocabulary. Their learning is consolidated throughout the course through exercises, translations, short quizzes and homework. By the end of the course, they are able to read simple Hebrew prose and conduct a detailed examination of a set text taken from the Hebrew Bible.

Brief description

(in Polish) Zajęcia mają przybliżyć studentkom i studentom wybrane dzieła dotyczące świętych

chrześcijańskich i pokazać na ich przykładzie użyteczność tego typu źródeł dla badań

historycznych. Omawiane teksty będą pochodziły z różnych okresów, pokazując rozwój

gatunku od jego zarania (III wiek) do jego pełnego rozwoju (XI wiek). Kluczowym celem

zajęć będzie wskazanie właściwych pytań badawczych, na które odpowiedzi można znaleźć w

hagiografii, ale i nauczenie uczestniczek i uczestników rozpoznawania ograniczeń tego typu

źródeł dla poznania historycznego.

(in Polish) Przedmiotem kursu są podstawy epigrafiki greckiej, jednej z najważniejszych nauk pomocniczych historii starożytnej. Kurs ma przygotować uczestników do samodzielnego posługiwania się inskrypcjami greckimi jako ważną kategorią świadectw pisma, języka i źródeł historycznych. W trakcie zajęć omówione zostaną wszystkie podstawowe kategorie inskrypcji greckich od epoki archaicznej po epokę rzymską (do III w. n.e. włącznie), historia pisma greckiego w tym okresie, metody pracy wydawcy tekstów epigraficznych, historia badań nad inskrypcjami greckimi i ewolucja metod badawczych, znaczenie inskrypcji dla filologii i dla rekonstrukcji historycznej.
