Brief description

(in Polish) Wykład jest prezentacją historycznie zmiennych koncepcji mimesis w odniesieniu do sztuk plastycznych, z koniecznym jednak uwzględnieniem relacji historycznych i teoretycznych pomiędzy malarstwem a poezją i muzyką.

Brief description

(in Polish) The title of this course refers to Whitney Chadwick’s book „Women, Art, and Society” (first published in 1990, Polish edition in 2015) that belongs to the canon of feminist art history. Although its fifth edition featured a work by Polish artist – Elżbieta Jabłońska – on its cover, women artists from Eastern Europe are strongly underrepresented even in the revised editions of this and other books telling the global story of women’s art. This lecture will in a way offset this imbalance by discussing various aspects of the relationship between women (women artists and representation of women), art, and society of the European socialist states. It will cover the period between 1945 and 1989 and will deal with both the state-supported socialist imaginary and art challenging it.
