(in Polish) The goal of the course to provide the students with a blended learning approach to the course content on Quantum Information and Quantum Many-Body Theory. The course will consist of online lectures, group projects on suggested topics and a summer school that will take place in Copenhagen in June 2024. The course is organized within the 4EU+ collaboration. The participation in the summer school of up to 9 students will supported financially by the university.

Brief description

(in Polish) The theoretical framework known as hydrodynamics and elasticity provides a powerful and complete description of our world at macroscopic scales (i.e, at large scales and long times compared to the molecular scales). The macroscopic dynamics of a variety of complex systems, such as biological and soft materials, atmospheric clouds, and the crust of the Earth, poses a formidable challenge for theoretical modeling, in which knowledge of classical hydrodynamics and elasticity is a major prerequisite.

This course introduces the basic equations of hydrodynamics and elasticity and

methods of their solution.

• We discuss the physics of everyday phenomena

• We provide a uniform mathematical framework to describe flow and deformation

• We show numerous real-life applications and examples

Brief description

The summer semester 2024 starts with the explanation of WIlsonian concept of renormalization procedure for Hamiltonians, including simple, illustrative examples of its application, before it is generalized to enable one to handle bound states and proceed to a front form of Hamiltonian approach to the Standard Model with a host of new projects to tackle.

The whole yearly course introduces students to modern methods of constructing renormalized Hamiltonian operators of relativistic quantum field theory in application to particle and nuclear physics. The stress is put on addressing the conceptual issues of quantization, regularization, renormalization and evaluation of effective Hamiltonians, including implications of the discussed methods concerning computational strategies for solving dynamical problems, especially the relativistic bound state eigenvalue problems. In the non-relativistic limit, the methods a priori also apply to atomic and condensed matter physics.

Brief description

The course is devoted to mathematically rigorous introduction to classical and quantum field theory. I will discuss general principles, free theories and theories interacting with external classical perturbations. This is a class of theories that allow to understand many difficult concepts nonperturbatively.

The course is not intended to replace the standard course of quantum field theory where the formalism of interacting theories is developed perturbatively, usually using heuristic, not always fully satisfactory arguments. The course can be their complement. The theories discussed in the course illustrate various difficulties of quantum theory: the necessity of renormalization, non-implementability of the dynamics on the Hilbert space, infrared divergencies, problems related to gauge invariance.

Based on relevant problems in physics, chemistry, and biology, we will outline a range of methods used for the description of randomness and fluctuations in natural phenomena. We will show how the mathematical framework can be used for computer modelling of random processes on various scales.
