Brief description

Human functioning is entirely immersed in time. Temporality is such an obvious feature of our nature that it usually remains beyond the scope of consciousness. But yet our way of perceiving reality mostly stems from the adaptation to being-in-time. Temporal psychology is deals with various aspects of psychological time: from time perception, through mental time travel, to temporal aspects of the Self. In the course we discuss major theories and results associated with broadly understood psychology of time. We will also review manifestations of psychological time “hidden” in the central concepts of emotions and motivation, personality, developmental psychology and psychopathology. We will also discuss measurement techniques used in time psychology research, as well as possible applications of temporal theories.

The workshop "Psychology of time" conducted by dr hab. M. Sobol-Kwapińska, provides applied extension to the present course.

Brief description

The framing effect in risky decision making is a cognitive bias described by Tversky and Kahneman (1981, 1986). It consists in the shift of the preference for risk taking depending on whether the same decision problem is formulated (i.e. framed) in gains (gain domain) or in losses (loss domain). The course is designed to discuss the nature of the framing effect, the psychological processes underlying its emergence and the factors which reduce a decision maker's susceptibility to the impact of the frames.
