ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 3.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Prerequisites (description):

The course aims to review the legal, cultural and logistic aspects of running a business in selected countries of North and South-Eastern Asia (China, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam). The basic treaty regulations in force in the relations between the Republic of Poland and the above-mentioned countries will be presented, and the basic national regulations in force in individual countries of the region affecting the conduct of business activities there will be outlined. During the course, participants will be introduced to the cultural conditions that influence business and management practices in each country. Such an overview will provide a solid basis for analyzing the key environmental factors that influence the way business is conducted in these economies. Practical aspects of running a business will also be discussed - business opportunities and challenges facing foreign companies, as well as business and management practices. This will give students an in-depth understanding of how business is conducted in these countries. This will enable students to further develop their expertise in their chosen field, region and country.

1.Introduction to the subject of classes, cultural conditions - history and business etiquette in Asia - BACKGROUND.

2. Multilateral and bilateral investment treaties important from the point of view of Polish investors in Asia and Asian investors in Poland - BLA.

3. The significance of the Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards, drawn up in New York on June 10, 1958, and the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods, drawn up in Vienna on April 11, 1980, and the Convention and the Convention on the Limitation of Claims in the International Sale of Goods, drawn up in New York on June 14, 1974 - BLA.

4. The importance of legal assistance agreements in civil and commercial matters - BLA.

5. The process of setting up a company and obtaining export and import certificates - TŁU.

6. Basic rules for drafting contracts in international trade - BLA.

7. Market access - support for economic diplomacy of the Republic of Poland and the EU - TŁU.

8. Summary of classes and written test (two out of six questions) BLA/TŁU.

Learning outcomes:

Knowledge:

Students will gain basic knowledge of the legal, economic and cultural context of entering Asian markets and the opportunities and challenges of working in a business environment.

Skills:

The student knows what regulations and where to expect them in particular countries of the region.

The student is able to use legal regulations, publications and the latest business news to analyze the conditions of establishing and developing a business, as well as making strategic decisions on how to establish a business with foreign capital.

Awareness:

The student is aware of problems faced by foreign investors and possible methods of solving them.

Additional skills:

Knowledge of economic history and current economic situation in Asia

Get to know the main industries and companies in selected Asian countries.

Understand the business environment in selected Asian countries.

Understand how management and intercultural differences affect the way we do business in Asia.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Attendance - 1 absence from class allowed without excuse.

Excessive absences must be credited for the on-call duty.

The basis for the assessment is a written credit for the last class.
