  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Prerequisites (description):

The aim of the course is to introduce to the security issues of the countries of the global South - Asia, Africa and Latin America. As part of the course, students should learn the main threats, their determinants as well as norms and regulatory rules in the field of security in specific regions.

Short description:

States of the South in the global international system. The specificity of the countries of the South. Challenges and threats to security in specific regions. Security policies and their dimensions. Legal and political regulatory mechanisms in the field of security. Global and regional security institutions - their role and importance in individual regions / subregions.

4. Security cooperation and regulatory mechanisms - security institutions

5. The specificity of the perception of security in Latin America

6. Institutional structure of security cooperation in Latin America: OAS, Rio Pact, sub-regional organizations, Tlatelolco Pact

7. Main security challenges in the region: drug dealing; terrorism; territorial disputes; organized crime; the weakness of democratic institutions; challenges for social and economic security; ecological threats; international migrations

8. regional security system in Asia-Pacific - from idea to system (concepts, legal and institutional framework, economic framework, evolution)

9. Stabilization and destabilization factors in regional security system in Asia-Pacific

Learning outcomes:

Knowledge: has knowledge of the role and significance of security issues for the study of international processes, knows the specificity of security problems in the countries of the global South, has knowledge of the causes, mechanisms, dynamics and effects of conflicts in the countries of the South.

Skills: knows how to use theoretical and factual knowledge for an in-depth analysis of the genesis, course and consequences of specific processes and phenomena in the sphere of security in the countries of the South.

Competences: has the ability to critically evaluate the knowledge possessed and received content, is able to critically evaluate his research activities.
