ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 3.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The objective of the course is to master understanding and interpreting some crucial areas of human symbolic activities, past and contemporary, as studied in ethnology/cultural anthropology. The concepts of traditional cosmology, ritual, myth (including its presence in pop culture), shamanism, taboo, and transgression, feasts and festivals are defined and discussed, mostly in reference to the field data brought by the author himself from his anthropological fieldwork.

The objective of the course is to master understanding and interpreting some crucial areas of human symbolic activities, past and contemporary, as studied in ethnology/cultural anthropology. The concepts of traditional cosmology, ritual, myth (including its presence in pop culture), shamanism, taboo, and transgression, feasts and festivals are defined and discussed, mostly in reference to the field data brought by the author himself from his anthropological fieldwork.

Course participants receive one or two easy texts every week, often authored by the lecturer. (no more than 20 pages in total).

Po ukończeniu kursu studenci:

- mają podstawową wiedzę na temat struktury myśli mitycznej, związków mitów z symboliką świąt;

- potrafią odnieść współczesne zjawiska kulturowe do tradycyjnych wierzeń

Assessment methods and assessment criteria: (in Polish)

Po każdym temacie - test lub punktowana dyskusja, dodatkowe punkty za aktywność. Zaliczenie pisemne (test) w sali na koniec kursu.
