Short description:	The objective of the course is to master understanding and interpreting some crucial areas of human symbolic activities, past and contemporary, as studied in ethnology/cultural anthropology. The concepts of traditional cosmology, ritual, myth (including its presence in pop culture), shamanism, taboo, and transgression, feasts and festivals are defined and discussed, mostly in reference to the field data brought by the author himself from his anthropological fieldwork.
Full description:	The objective of the course is to master understanding and interpreting some crucial areas of human symbolic activities, past and contemporary, as studied in ethnology/cultural anthropology. The concepts of traditional cosmology, ritual, myth (including its presence in pop culture), shamanism, taboo, and transgression, feasts and festivals are defined and discussed, mostly in reference to the field data brought by the author himself from his anthropological fieldwork.
Bibliography:	Course participants receive one or two easy texts every week, often authored by the lecturer. (no more than 20 pages in total).
Learning outcomes:	(in Polish) Po ukończeniu kursu studenci: - mają podstawową wiedzę na temat struktury myśli mitycznej, związków mitów z symboliką świąt; - potrafią odnieść współczesne zjawiska kulturowe do tradycyjnych wierzeń
Assessment methods and assessment criteria:	(in Polish) Po każdym temacie - test lub punktowana dyskusja, dodatkowe punkty za aktywność. Zaliczenie pisemne (test) w sali na koniec kursu.
