Short description: |
The classes are focused on micro- and macro-structure of texts, structural differences between Polish and English texts, and cultural differences between source and target languages. The aim is also to practise using compensation methods in the remit of structures, lexical units, and cultures in translating from Polish into English. |

The classes are focused on micro- and macro-structure of texts, structural differences between Polish and English texts, and cultural differences between source and target languages. The aim is also to practise using translation methods in translation of culture-bound elements. Teaching contents: 1. Translation methods. 2. Equivalence in translation studies. Types of text translated throughout the course include a) psychology texts b) legal texts Didactic methods: grammar-translation method The no. of hrs the student should study the subject consists of: * time in-class 30h * self-study 30h 60h = 2 ECTS |

Learning outcomes: |
After completing the course, the student: - will know English both spoken and written at CEFR C1+ level (K2_W09) - will be able to communicate in English both spoken and written at CEFR C1+ level (K1_U10) - will be able to communicate on specialist topics using various channels and communication techniques in Polish, Ukrainian or English (K2_U13) - will be able to critically evaluate their own knowledge and received messages (K1_K01). |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
Requirements and final grading components (at the first and second attempt to pass the course): - continuous evaluation (regular preparation for classes and work during classes) – 30% - individual projects (home translation assignments) – 40% - individual project (in-class translation assignment – 30% Assessment criteria (percentage): 60% - 68% - 3 (satisfactory) 69% - 77% - 3+ (satisfactory plus) 78% - 86% - 4 (good) 87% - 95% - 4+ (good plus) 96% - 98% - 5 (very good) 99% -100% - 5! (Very good rating with an exclamation mark) It is obligatory to attend classes The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences. The form of crediting the classes in which the student was absent is determined by the lecturer. |
