ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 2.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Prerequisites (description):

The classes are devoted to issues including the intersection of political, social, religious and cultural influences of the Western and Eastern worlds on the territory of Ukraine from the beginning of Kievan Rus until modern times.

The issue of Eastern and Western influences in Ukraine will be presented in a historical perspective, but at the same time taking into account the contemporary vector policy (balancing between Russia and Europe) and the effects of the Ukrainian-Russian war in 2022.

Full description:

The main aim of the course is to familiarize students with the historical and contemporary processes and events taking place in the history of Ukrainian lands and Ukraine in the period from the 10th century, and to introduce the basic concepts of the history of Ukraine.

The main objective of the course is to familiarize students with historical and contemporary processes and events taking place in the history of Ukrainian lands and Ukraine in the period from the 10th century and to familiarize students with the basic concepts of the history of Ukraine. The following topics will be discussed:

1. Kievan Rus - divided heritage

2. Political and cultural transfer towards Moscow

3. Translatio imperii towards Halicko-Volyn Rus

4. Meeting of Rus with Rus

5. Religious issues between Rome and Moscow

3. Cossacks and Ukraine between Poland and Muscovite Ruthenia

4. National revival in contemporary Ukrainian lands

5. Ukrainian nationalism in the 20th century

6. Ukrainian maidan and identity transformation

7. Warfare 2022
