Short description:

The aim of the seminar is to prepare students for independent reading of ancient literature. A joint analysis of selected works of the French Middle Ages and the Renaissance based on the latest critical studies is to encourage an in-depth study of cultural and literary phenomena and the acquisition of the ability to formulate extensive comments on the analyzed texts.

Selected works will be analyzed in three research perspectives: the nature of the work, the identity of the author and the real or presumed audience.

The aim of the seminar is to prepare students for independent reading of ancient literature. A joint analysis of selected works of the French Middle Ages and the Renaissance based on the latest critical studies is to encourage an in-depth study of cultural and literary phenomena and the acquisition of the ability to formulate extensive comments on the analyzed texts.

Selected works will be analyzed in three research perspectives: the nature of the work, the identity of the author and the real or presumed audience.

Learning outcomes:

After successfully completing the course, the student is able to:

- correctly place literary events in their cultural context,

- efficiently refers to the chronology of the epoch,

- explain the most important concepts for the period in question,

- find connections between literary phenomena,

- independently analyze the literary text,

- express yourself in an organized manner on topics related to the topic of classes.

- independently edit, correctly in terms of content and language, a short text (essay) on a given topic in the scope of the issues discussed.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

- presence and active participation in classes

- delivering a short lecture on a given topic

- preparation of a term paper (essay in Polish)

- final oral examination in the field of issues discussed in class

The form and criteria for passing the course may change depending on the current epidemic threat situation. Equivalent credit conditions will be established in accordance with the guidelines in force at the University of Warsaw, in consultation with the participants of the classes.
