The aim of the seminar is to prepare students for independent reading and discussion on selected texts of the Renaissance era based on the latest critical studies. Encouraging creative analysis of works and developing the ability to formulate extensive comments to the analyzed texts.

The aim of the seminar is to prepare students for independent reading and discussion on selected texts of the Renaissance era based on the latest critical studies. Encouraging creative analysis of works and developing the ability to formulate extensive comments to the analyzed texts.

The Renaissance Ideal of Man: Jean Pic de la Mirandole, "On Human Dignity";

Happiness - the way through knowledge and education : Erasmus and Rabelais - a great challenge: education;

Happiness - the way through faith: Margaret of Navarre Heptameron;

Happiness - the way through love: Petrarchism and Neoplatonism (Clément Marot, Maurice Scève's Délie and the Lyons school of poetry; Pleiade, Joachim Du Bellay and Ronsard);

Happiness - the way through self-discovery: Michel de Montaigne's Les Essais.

Learning outcomes:

After successful completion of the course (literary studies seminar), the student:

- has the ability to place literary events in their cultural context,

- efficiently refers to the chronology of the era,

- can explain the most important concepts for the period in question,

- can find connections between literary phenomena,

- can independently analyze a literary text,

- is able to independently edit in Polish, correctly in terms of content and language, a text (dissertation) on a given topic within the scope of the discussed issues,

- can express themselves in an organized way on topics related to the problems of the classes.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

- presence and active participation in classes, allowed two absences (unexcused) in a semester;

- delivering a short paper on a given topic using a monograph or an article;

- written test: term paper (dissertation)

- continuous assessment of oral statements or oral credit in the field of issues raised in class
