ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 2.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The aim of the workshop is to present how two great religions - Islam and Christianity - function in Africa. Despite cultural diversity, there are many common features thanks to which African cultures create opportunities for coexistence of followers of both religions.

Full description:

The aim of the workshop is to present how two great religions - Islam and Christianity - function in Africa. Despite cultural diversity, there are many common features thanks to which African cultures create opportunities for coexistence of followers of both religions.

Using workshop methods, students will have the opportunity to learn and discuss the following issues:

- presentation of Islamized and Christian areas in Africa

- the influence of culture on religions

- the role of Sufism in Africa

- changes taking place in both religions and modern religious trends

- ways of social functioning in multi-religious African communities

- the role of terrorist groups from outside Africa

Learning outcomes:

Knowledge

- a student has structured knowledge about various religious areas in Africa

and sociocultural interactions between Islam and Christianity

Skills

- A student will be able to apply knowledge about religious problems in Africa in his professional work and to interpret the events of the modern world

Social competence

- A student is aware of cultural diversity and its religious sources and its importance for understanding the modern world

- sees the need for intercultural dialogue

- is aware of the importance of the culture of African countries in world culture
