ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 3.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;

Short description:

The course presents the phenomenon of Polish-Lithuanian Tatars literature in its various forms (manuscripts, talisman-devotional boards, inscriptions), whose basic characteristic was the use of the Arabic alphabet both for writing Oriental (Arabic and Turkish) languages and Slavonic languages (Polish and Belarusian) .

The course covers the following issues or groups of issues related to the literature of the Polish-Lithuanian Tatars:

language situation of the Tatar population in the territories of the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth - manuscripts and their contents - connections of Polish-Tatar literature with the Muslim and Christian traditions - philomats' translation of the Koran - devotional practices and other religious rituals and magical practices in manuscripts - devotional panels – epigraphy.

Learning outcomes:

After completing the course and confirming the achievement of learning outcomes, the student is able to:

Characterize the cultural and linguistic situation of the Polish-Tatar community in the context of its history and genesis.

Identify the types of Polish Tatar manuscripts.

Read and transcribe Polish-Tatar texts.

Characterize the content of Polish-Tatar literature, especially against the rituals, traditions and beliefs of Islam.

Describe the relationship between Polish-Tatar literature and Old Polish literature.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Evaluation as part of the knowledge written exam acquired during the lecture and on the basis of the recommended literature.

5.0 - very good knowledge of the material presented during the classes and on the basis of the recommended literature, very good reading in the literature on the subject, proficient use of the specialist methodology

4,5 - very good knowledge of the material presented during the classes and on the basis of the recommended literature, very good reading in the literature on the subject, proficient use of specialist methodology
