ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 3.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

Course comprises the most important issues from the history of Republic of Turkey from 1923 till nowadays, including the role of political leaders. The topics are; history of political parties, Turkish constitutions, political system, form of government, military coup d’états. During the lectures the most important questions of internal and foreign policy of successive governments, Turkish relations with European Union and NATO will be taken up.

Course comprises the most important issues from the history of Republic of Turkey from 1923 till nowadays, including the role of political leaders. The topics are; history of political parties, Turkish constitutions, political system, form of government, military coup d’états. During the lectures the most important questions of internal and foreign policy of successive governments, Turkish relations with European Union and NATO will be taken up.

Knowledge:

o has basic knowledge in the range of theory of humanities (literary studies or linguistics or history) necessary to understand chosen cultural aspects within the scope of the history of Turkey [K_W04];

o has detailed and organized knowledge of history of the Republic of Turkey [K_W06];

o has detailed and organized knowledge of socio-cultural issues of Turkey within the scope of natural environment and ethnic, demographic and political situation of the Republic of Turkey [K_W09];

o has organized knowledge of natural, geopolitical and economic environment and their importance for the historical and contemporary situation of Turkey [K_W11];

o knows and understands basic analysis and interpretation methods of various products of culture characteristic of chosen theories and schools of research within the scope of the history of Turkey [K_W18];

Skills:

o can indicate sources of cultural differences between Turkey and other countries [K_U02];

o can use the knowledge of history of Turkey to analyze and interpret events taking place in the modern world [K_U04];

o can appropriately place Turkey in the context of circumstances pertinent to natural, geopolitical and economic environment [K_U05];

o can use the knowledge of socio-cultural issues of Turkey in typical professional situations [K_U09];

o has a skill in presenting detailed aspects within the scope of cultural issues of Turkey in Polish and in a foreign language taking into consideration the intellectual tradition of Turkey [K_U21].

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Student is required to read at least six assigned readings (primary sources as well as monographs) whose contents will be discussed during the final oral exam along with the contents of the lecture and textbooks.
