The aim of the course is to present the role of tourism and recreation in local development, including: local determinants of tourism development, various local development concepts (important from the point of view of tourism and recreation), selected examples of finished initiatives to use tourism and recreation (including with culture, sport and entertainment) in local development. |

The lecture presents the following issues: - The concept of local development. The genesis of the idea of local development. Conditions and factors of local development - Local development in various regional development concept. Sustainable development and unbalanced development - Selected concepts useful for studying the role of tourism and recreation in local development: concept of growth poles, concept of path dependency, sustainable tourism concept, 4Hs and cultural village concepts, integrated tourist resort concept, concepts of urban waterfront areas and festival market place - Historical examples of the impact of tourism and recreation on local development (including examples from Great Britain, Austria, Italy, Thailand, Poland) - Contemporary examples of the impact of tourism and recreation and sport, culture and entertainment on local development in urban areas (including examples from Great Britain, USA, Hong Kong, Portugal, Turkey, Morocco, Spain, Poland) - Contemporary examples of the impact of tourism and recreation and sport, culture and entertainment on local development in rural areas: suburban and rural (including examples from Spain, Austria, the Czech Republic, Italy, Cyprus, Greece, South Africa, Namibia, and Poland). |

Learning outcomes: |
After completing the course, the student: KNOWLEDGE 1. Knows the basic concepts of local development (K_W07). 2. Knows and knows how to determine factors that may affect the development of tourism and recreation on a local scale (K_W09). 3. Knows the socio-economic, cultural and natural consequences of tourism and recreation in local systems (K_W09). SKILLS 1. Is able to correctly interpret the mutual relations between the natural and socio-economic conditions and the role of tourism and recreation in local development (K_U01). 2. Can use the basic theoretical knowledge to describe and solve the research problem (K_U02). 3. He can present his views orally and actively participate in the substantive discussion (K_U10). SOCIAL COMPETENCE 1. Shows an attitude of openness towards the diversity of human tourist and recreational interests and related forms of activity (K_K07). 2. Can interact and work in a group (K_K04). |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
Attendance at the classes is obligatory. The final grade is based on the result of the final test, covering the issues discussed in the classroom. In addition, continuous assessment is carried out during the course (assessment of students' activity during the discussion). Depending on the student's level of activity and the substantive quality of the statement, the final grade may be increased (up to 1 degree). |
