Prerequisites (description): | (in Polish) Od studentów oczekuje się elementarnej wiedzy o współczesnym społeczeństwie polskim. Uczestnik kursu powinien wykazywać zainteresowanie bieżącą jak i prognozowaną kondycją współczesnych społeczeństw, a także opiniami na ten temat pojawiającymi się w dyskursie publicznym oraz potocznym. Ponadto uczestnik kursu powinien wykazywać chęć pozyskiwania wiedzy z różnych źródeł danych, zarówno o charakterze liczbowym (statystyki) jak i jakościowym (treści dokumentów, wywiadów, materiałów archiwalnych). Ponadto od studenta oczekuje się gotowości do aktywnego uczestnictwa w zajęciach, w inicjowanych dyskusjach, a w szczególności pracy z komputerem (tak samodzielnej, jak podczas zajęć), a także zaangażowania w tworzenie projektów analitycznych, interpretacji zastanych danych statystycznych i wyrażania na ich temat opinii. |

Social data analysis (30 hours) - analysis of quantitative and qualitative data in the context of political, social and economic processes. The course is accredited by Predictive Solutions under the auspices of IBM Poland. In accordance with the Regulations of the Accreditation and Certification System, all students participating in the accredited course, after passing it with at least a good grade, will be awarded the SPSS Technology Junior Expert certificate. |

The primary objective of the course is to provide participants with the basic knowledge and skills in social and political data analysis. A student equipped with such knowledge will be comfortable with the elementary concepts used in quantitative data analysis and apply basic analytical methods and tools. In addition, he will be able to analyze social and political processes, their interrelationships using quantitative data analysis. Upon completion of the course, students should know and be able to use Polish and European sources of statistical data (survey research, public statistics). During the course, the student will acquire the ability to acquire, prepare and interpret datasets for analysis, perform calculations in IBM SPSS Statistics program in terms of basic measures to describe and diagnose social and political phenomena, as well as apply methods to study relationships and statistical dependence. Students will be able to interpret the results of calculations prepared in the IBM SPSS Statistics program, independently prepare a dataset for analysis, carry out calculations based on it in the program, primarily in the field of basic descriptive statistics and methods based on statistical inference. In addition, after taking the course, students will adequately interpret the results of calculations prepared in the IBM SPSS Statistics program and create simple reports and presentations according to accepted technical and aesthetic principles. As part of the course, students participate in a public opinion survey (empirical quantitative research). The course is accredited by Predictive Solutions under the auspices of IBM Poland. Learning outcomes: |
KNOWLEDGE EK1. He knows the directions of research of political science and their relationships with research in other social sciences (W09). SKILLS EK4. Student is able to use theoretical knowledge in the field of political science and related disciplines to analyze and interpret phenomena and processes in the area of policy (U03). EK5. Can use basic theories and the use of methods and techniques for the diagnosis and prognosis of various phenomena in the policy area (U05). EK7. Can develop their professional skills, using different sources (in the native language and a foreign language) as well as modern technology (ICT) (U08). EK8. Student has the ability to present their own ideas, justify them, and to confront the views of other students and various authors (U09). EK10. Student has the ability to collect, hierarchies, information processing and creation of typical works written in Polish and foreign language on specific issues with the use of the basic theoretical concepts and different sources (U11). COMPETENCES EK15. Has need to further supplement the knowledge and improve and expand skills (K07). |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
(in Polish) Warunkiem zaliczenia kursu jest samodzielne wykonanie przez studenta wszystkich aktywności kursowych, a w szczególności zapoznanie się z tekstami omawiającymi poszczególne zagadnienia dotyczące Analizy danych społecznych, zapoznanie się z prezentacjami oraz materiałami multimedialnymi, realizacja zadań zleconych przez prowadzącego kurs oraz udział w dyskusjach akademickich. Wszystkie ww. czynności należy wykonać we wskazanych terminach. W przypadku dyskusji akademickich prowadzący może je wcześniej zakończyć o czym informuje uczestników kursu. W ramach każdego z omawianych modułów (łącznie 4), student może uzyskać maksymalnie 25 punktów. Punkty uzyskuje się za poprawnie zrealizowane zadania oraz udział w dyskusjach akademickich. Maksymalnie w trakcie całego kursu w części podstawowej można uzyskać 100 punktów. W ramach modułu III student może uzyskać punkty dodatkowe, jeżeli opracowany przez niego kwestionariusz wywiadu CAWI zostanie zakwalifikowany w drodze głosowania do trzech najwyżej punktowanych. W tego typu przypadku autor najlepszej ankiety otrzyma 10 dodatkowych punktów, zaś studenci którzy zajęli 2 i 3 miejsce odpowiednio 7 i 5 punktów. W ramach kursu studenci biorą udział w badaniu opinii publicznej (empiryczne badanie ilościowe). |
