The purpose of this course is to acquaint students with the current state of knowledge in the field of social neuroscience. It is quite new branch of research which seeks to identify neurological substitutes constituting a basis for specific human characteristics, such as thinking in terms of ethics, self-consciousness, developing social relations. During the course, students will be acquainted with the newest research concerning cognitive and clinic neuropsychology, as well as psychology of development, and experimental psychology pertaining to basis of social interaction. During the later phase of the course, theory of mind, its normal and pathological development will be presented and discussed. This course includes issues related to symptoms, aetiology, diagnosis and therapy of individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The criteria of ASD in DSM-5 and ICD-10 will be discussed. Students will be provided with useful methods and diagnostic tools. Various approaches and forms of therapy, such as behavior modification, developmental and educational approach, and controversial therapeutic methods such as Option method, Holding, non-directive therapy and others will be discussed. Some meetings will be devoted to the problems of families of children with autism, and the role of professionals working with these children. |
