Full description: |
The course will be held at workshops at European Centre for Geological Education in Chęciny near Kielce in Holy cross vovoideoship. The participants of the course will be accommodated at European Centre for Geological Education. Workshops will be done using geophysical equipment and infrastructure of ECEG inside as well as outside of the Centre. During course Students will have an opportunity to gain basic knowledge of GPR and ERT theoretical aspects. Those methods are suitable for recognition of geological medium in post-mining areas (eg the Rzepka Quarry) for engineering, hydrogeological, mining and environmental protection purposes. The field workshop will be done by acquire data in abandoned quarry “Korzecko” and near European Centre for Geological Education (post mining area). The course will be conducted for the next 6 days. On the 7th day, participants will take consultation meeting and a test to check the acquired knowledge. The schedule of workshop would be as follows: Day 1 - 3 hours theoretical basics of the GPR method (advantages and limitations, examples of use) 3 hours. theoretical basics of the Electrical Resistivity method (advantages and limitations, measurement techniques, measurement arrays) Day 2 - 6 hours acquisition of 2D and 3D GPR measurements Day 3 - 6 hours acquisition and interpretation of Vertical electrical sounding (VES) Day 4 - 6 hours acquisition of Electrical Resistivity Tomography measurements 2.5D Day 5 - 6 hours data processing and interpretation of Electrical Resistivity Tomography Day 6 - 3 hours processing and interpretation of GPR data, 3 hours preparation of a report on the performed measurements Day 7 - 4 hours consultation, 2 hours acquired knowledge test |

Learning outcomes: |
The student knows the theoretical basics of the GPR and Electrical Resistivity Tomography methods. Through active participation in data acquisition, processing and interpretation, he gains the necessary knowledge to independently carry out measurements with these methods in the future. The student knows the most important problems of GPR and Electrical Resistivity Tomography methods and understands the connection of this knowledge with geology (P2A_W05). The student knows how to apply the basic algorithms and procedures for the processing and interpretation of geophysical data (P2A_W03). The student is able to prepare the measurements of GPR and Electrical Resistivity Tomography and prepare a report with the results of the interpretation of these data (P2A_W03). The student is able to interpret geological and anthropogenic structures on the basis of GPR and ERT sections. |
