Brief description

The course is focused on using intelligent methods for solving problems that are difficult or impractical to solve with other methods. Accordingly, we discuss, among the others, various approaches based on heuristics, approximations, randomized, as well as deductive and inductive schemes of reasoning, often designed by analogy to the human way of problem solving. The main topics include also intelligent search through large spaces of states and solutions, intelligent game strategies, reasoning in logic and logical foundations of planning, foundations of machine learning in relation to artificial intelligence, foundations of modeling of uncertainty, as well as various specialized applications.

Brief description

(in Polish) Na zajęciach poruszane są zagadnienia dotyczące struktury genomów bakterii i archeonów. Podkreślane są cechy wspólne i unikatowe tych organizmów. Omawiane są procesy replikacji i segregacji DNA, transkrypcji, translacji oraz naprawy DNA uszkodzonego w wyniku różnego typu mutacji. Poruszane są również zagadnienia związane z regulacją ekspresji genów prokariotycznych. Zajęcia obejmują zarówno wątki metodologiczne (genomika, metagenomika, transkryptomika, metatranskryptomika, proteomika, metabolomika, modelowanie metaboliczne), jak i aplikacyjne (identyfikacja i typowanie molekularne mikroorganizmów prokariotycznych oraz wykorzystanie genetyki bakterii w przemyśle, medycynie i ochronie środowiska). Ćwiczenia stanowią kontynuację i rozwinięcie treści omawianych podczas wykładu.

(in Polish) Kurs jest wprowadzeniem do teorii i metod rozwiązywania podstawowych zadań obliczeniowych matematyki ciągłej, w których interesuje nas wartość numeryczna rozwiązania, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem zadań i algorytmów ważnych z punktu widzenia matematyki stosowanej, a także uczenia maszynowego. Główne grupy tematyczne zawierają: (A) podstawy teorii obliczeń numerycznych, (B) metody bezpośrednie dla zadań algebry liniowej, (C) metody bezpośrednie dla zadań analizy, (D) metody iteracyjne dla wybranych zadań.

In the course we present several methods of finding usually approximate solutions to basic mathematical problems when finding exact solutions is either impossible or impractical.

The course includes: elements of error analysis, polynomial and spline interpolation, elements of approximation, quadrature rules, Gauss quadratures, numerical solutions of systems of linear equations, real roots of the equations, numerical eigenproblem.

In many practical application one has to solve some mathematical problem on a computer. To do this efficiently, one usually resorts to the computation using floating point numbers. In this lecture we survey several basic mathematical problems of applied mathematics and their numerical solution methods. We shall stress both rigorous mathematical theory which underlies the algorithms discussed and efficient implementation of these algorithms as well.
