Brief description
The course provides knowledge about the plant cover (vegetation and flora) of northern Poland against the background of geomorphological, habitat, climatic and biotic conditions (including those related to the role of animals and fungi). The most important topics covered include: 1) vegetation and flora versus geomorphological, climatic and habitat diversity; 2) the formation of the vegetation cover and the post-glacial history of the flora; 3) the diversity of natural forest, mire, aquatic and other natural non-forest ecosystems and their species composition; 4) succession processes in forest, mire, lake and dune ecosystems; 5) the geobotanical regionalization of Northern Poland; 6) the role of biotic factors (e.g. the influence of herbivores) in the development of plant communities. |

The course contains the most important problems of ornithology. It gives wide theoretical basis on bird adaptation to habitat and way of life, as well as many aspects of their biology, ecology, threats and methods of protection. Students should also acquire the ability to identify most common birds and their voices in the field and should be able to apply some methods in ornithological research. |
