(in Polish) This introductory seminar will focus on the intersections between art and the five canonical senses – sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch – in early modern Europe (1400-1600). Though visual arts were obviously perceived primarily by means of sight, in recent years scholars have increasingly turned to thinking about how the other senses may have been implicated in the creation and historical reception of works of art. Readings discussed during class will address this issue from a variety of perspectives, ranging from straightforward representations of acts associated with a particular sense, to works of art that demanded the simultaneous engagement of multiple senses.

require a background in the history of art and

architecture. It deals with the definition of modern and

contemporary art and architecture exhibitions,

organised from the beginning of the 20 th century to the

first decades of the 21 st century, as a heterochronic

medium/form/constellation of works.

The aim of the planned lecture is presentation of the complex processes, connected with the Polish collective memory in the 20th century, both in the interwar period, in the communist Poland and after 1989

Przedmiotem szczególnego zainteresowania będą:

narodziny kultu świętych i relikwii w najstarszych wspólnotach chrześcijańskich, jego rozwój w Cesarstwie Rzymskim i w świecie zachodnim po upadku imperium; wpływ kultu świętych i relikwii w Bizancjum i w Rzymie na religijność w Europie karolińskiej i ottońskiej; przejawy kultu świętych i relikwii w Europie łacińskiej w IX-XI wieku; sztuka sakralna związana z kultem świętych i relikwii w Europie łacińskiej, liturgia związana z kultem świętych i relikwii w Kościele zachodnim od IX do XIII w.; cuda w kulturze religijnej, politycznej i społecznej Europy średniowiecznej; kult świętych i relikwii w Polsce średniowiecznej.

(in Polish) Lectures will focus on fundamental change in theory of architecture and in methods of conceptualizing the built form in early modern period, as well as on diverse narratives concerning history of architecture and vernacular building.
